History & Philosophy

LaTanzi, Spaulding and Landreth, P.C.  has been engaged in the practice of law since 1969. Originally comprised of one attorney and one staff member, the firm now employs more than twenty-five as attorneys, secretaries, paralegals, clerks, law interns and real estate abstractors.

The firm's philosophy remains consistent with the ideals that were originally brought to the practice by Thomas LaTanzi: expeditious resolution of a client's problem by providing prompt and quality legal services coupled with a complete familiarity of the legal issues through regular client communication and a thorough understanding of the relevant law.

In order to best aid the client, each attorney concentrates his or her practice in a particular field of law. Originally established as a general practice with concentration in real estate and litigation, the firm has diversified its practice to include specialties in real estate, probate and estate planning, business, civil and criminal litigation and zoning and municipal law.

The firm brings a broad range of experience and knowledge to all its practice. For example, LaTanzi, Spaulding and Landreth, P.C. has a high level of expertise in the areas of zoning and municipal law since its attorneys have served as Town Counsel for ten years in Orleans, fourteen years in Brewster and four years in Provincetown. The firm also acts, on occasion, as special town counsel to various other Cape Cod towns. In addition, two members of the firm serve as town moderators, one member has acted as chairman of the Orleans Charter Commission and one has served as Chairman of a local Board of Selectmen.

Often a client's legal needs involve more than one area of law. LaTanzi, Spaulding and Landreth, P.C. employs a "Firm" concept: clients are considered firm clients rather than clients of an individual attorney. Thus a true "firm" approach is used to integrate the skills of attorneys practicing various specialties thereby supplementing individual areas of specialization through cooperation and interaction among attorneys in all aspects of our practice. The firm believes that the client should be represented by the attorney or attorneys best able to serve the client's current legal needs. The result is integrated legal services of superior quality.

The firm has represented a variety of clients including small and large businesses, banks, charitable and educational associations, trust and estates, professionals, such as doctors, engineers and other attorneys, and other individuals. Individual clients may be quite wealthy, requiring sophisticated estate planning or of modest means, needing a first will or purchasing their first home. We represent large corporations and real estate developers as well as small local corporations and individuals needing representation before local town boards for special permits or variances. Our clients are involved in a wide variety of businesses including banking, construction, real estate development, health care, broadcast and print media, marine services, manufacturing, retailing and restaurants. Our broad client base is an advantage for the firm and the clients we serve.

The lawyers at LaTanzi, Spaulding and Landreth, P.C. are a diverse group of individuals, natives of several states and graduates of numerous law schools and undergraduate colleges and universities. Its lawyers have held or now hold a variety of both public and legal service positions including membership on various town boards, town committees, charter commissions, and pro bono representation of nonprofit town associations and chambers of commerce, in addition to positions as town moderators. The lawyers also hold membership in the American Bar Association, Massachusetts Bar Association and the Barnstable Bar Association as well as the National Association of Trial Lawyers and the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel. They are admitted to practice in the state courts of Massachusetts and Ohio, in the U.S. District Court of Massachusetts, in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 1st and 9th circuits, in the U.S. Supreme Court, and in the United States Tax Court.
