Sara J. Kohls
Sara was born and raised in Acton, and grew up vacationing in Chatham. She graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst cum laude and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa National Academic Honor Society. After undergrad, Sara spent two years working at a law firm as a litigation assistant. She attended Case Western Reserve University School of Law in Cleveland, Ohio, and graduated cum laude in 2013. At Case Western, Sara was elected the Executive Articles Editor & Symposium Coordinator of the Journal of Law, Technology & the Internet. Her Note, Searching the Cloud, was published in the Fall 2012 edition of the Journal.
During law school, Sara was a judicial extern for a Federal Judicial Magistrate at the United States District Court, Northern District of Ohio. She interned at the Lorain County Prosecutor’s Office in Elyria, Ohio and the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office in Boston, Massachusetts. During school, she participated in the Milton A. Kramer Law Clinic as a certified legal intern, where she represented indigent defendants through all phases of a criminal trial.
After graduating law school, Sara served as a Law Clerk to the Justices of the Superior Court of Massachusetts, and was assigned to assist the Justices in both Plymouth and Barnstable Counties. Sara joined La Tanzi, Spaulding & Landreth, P.C as a litigation associate in 2015, where she focuses her practice on criminal defense, probate litigation, landlord tenant, and civil litigation. She is admitted to practice in Massachusetts.
Sara was named a “40 under 40” winner in 2017 by Cape & Plymouth Business Magazine. Sara is the co-founder of the Barnstable County Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division. She was the 2016-2017 Regional Director to the Massachusetts Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division for Barnstable/Dukes/Nantucket. She is a board member of Cape Cod Young Professionals. She served on the Events Committee from 2015-2017 and was the Co-Chair of the Events Committee from 2016-2017. She serves on the Steering Committee for the CCYP Shape Your Cape Summit from 2015-2017 and is the Chair of the event for 2018. She is a graduate of the 2017 Class of the Community Leadership Institute (CLI) of Cape Cod. She also does extensive volunteer work for the MSPCA Cape Cod.
